Gorgeous Vintage Taxco "Maricela" Sterling Silver Pebble accented Leaf Brooch Pin by Ysidro Garcia. Circa 1950's Ysidro (sometimes spelled Isidro) Garcia Peña Started his shop in 1943 (closed in 1986) after training as a silversmith with his brother-in-law Damaso Gallegos. His Brother-in-law had worked in Hector Aguilar's shop (Taller Borda) and it is known that Alfredo Villasana managed for Hector in the 1930's. I share this information, because it's so neat to be able to put pieces together; imagining how each individual artist developed their skill with so much heart and soul put into each creation. Ysidro named his shop 'Maricela' in tribute to his Daughter, and his shop name was trademarked in 1950 This piece is Marked STERLING 'Maricela Tasco' trademark Hecho en Mexico Eagle mark 2 In Beautiful Vintage condition, though does show signs of wear. Has light naturally developed patina, minor surface scratches. Pin bar slightly bent from use. Clasp works well.
