1932 The Silent Hostess Treasure Book published by General Electric, 5th Edition

As a student of history, I am fascinated by vintage books, such as this. This belonged to my grandmother and in the back she wrote some phone numbers, which were four digits long. Telephone companies by consensus in 1929 agreed to four digit phone numbers. This worked well in the early years before everyone had phones in the home. You probably don’t give your refrigerator much of a second thought however this was a revolutionary technology that totally changed how Americans ate and lived. General Electric was in the forefront of this invention. I found some magazine ads depicting what their refrigerator look like in 1932. Amazing isn’t it? Wouldn’t they be shocked at how we live today? This book has been in the family, fragrance and smoke free. It is soft back with 103 pages. It is more than a cookbook, it is helping women of the 1930s understand how this would change their lives. My favorite page is number 21 which is entertaining when you don’t have a maid. It’s an amazing study of Americana.
