My normal shoe size ranges from an 8 to a 9.5 (or a 39 in Euro sizes), depending on the brand, and I found these beautiful shoes to run small. In the end, I had to purchase a 10, which is very out of the norm for me. So I discourage you from purchasing this pair if an 8.5 is your normal size. Brand new, never worn. From toe tip to back heel edge, the shoe measures 10.75 inches (27 cm). The box, as you can see from the pictures, has a tear in the top part.
