Born on July 14th, 1934 in Mt Holly, New Jersey, Cox studied at the Katharine Gibbs School of Art from 1953 until 1956 and then joined Mayhew Peakes Inc. as a graphic designer. He resigned in 1962 and moved to California, where he married Marjorie Cox in 1966. He found much inspiration for his floral paintings in California and became one of the most prolific painters of the 1970s and 1980s. He employed the palette knife to create his stylized flowers.
