Hello. You may not be aware of this, but this ring is not 14k gold. It is tombac metal typical of the period and the marking in the shank says size 7 and the "Z" marking means Zircon. It originally had a 4 carat zircon stone in it and was removed for soldering onto this garnet piece. My uncle is a curator of antiquities in London and he's seen many pieces altered in this way. I still like it and don't mind but don't want to pay for 14 karat pricing. I made an offer based on what it is. Thanks!

@chanel5girl ok. I’ll have to look into it. It says 14ct. I will get it looked at further when I have a moment. I’m not ready to sell it at that price. I can budge a bit but not to that number.

No worries. If you look closely though, you'll see that what you think is a number 1 in front of the 4 is actually
a capital Z. There are lots of these pieces for sale on different forums so it will be easy for you to research it. Good luck. Have a beautiful day.

@chanel5girl the ring is 14k. I took it to a jeweler today to confirm.

It’s definitely a 1 not a Z. Sorry the pictures are not clear enough.

Hi there! Do you have an appraisal or something from the jeweler? I would accept that the shank could be 14k if it was replaced at some time, but they didn't use 14k in the bohemian garnet era. If you have something and want to post it, I will make another offer. Thanks and have a nice evening! It's a pretty piece. :-)

By the way, I would be fine with the top part not being 14k in fact I would expect that, but would make an offer based on just the shank being gold. ;-)

@chanel5girl I took it to my jeweler and she confirmed it was 14 ct. she said it was likely from Europe based on how it’s written. Appraisals cost money. You’re welcome to buy it and if you are unhappy you can return.
