A beautiful English Wedgwood Jasperware sage green and white matte stoneware bowl or planter cachepot jardinière (plant pot holder) in the Neoclassical design style, circa mid-20th century, England. Piece is a matte stoneware in a light green with a white neoclassical raised relief around center. Beautiful as a standalone piece, or to be used as the before mentioned. With maker's mark "Wedgwood", "Made in England", potters' mark and year on bottom. Dimensions: 4.94" diameter x 2.63" height. Marked Wedgwood Made in England 1959-year Replacement Piece Wedgwood China of England produced an unglazed finish called Jasperware. This jasperware bowl was made in 1959 Wedgwood was founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood, who is now remembered as the "Father of English Potters". He was in the heart of the English potteries and serviced his apprenticeship as a potter before setting up his own business. After he manufactured a cream colored tea and coffee service for Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, she allowed him to style himself "Potter to Her Majesty" and to call his new cream ware Queen's Ware. The rest is history. This is one of the most sought after Wedgwood pieces in the market today.
