@margurett hi there it is 20 inches and there is a stretch to the fabric . It says 100% cotton but it is a gauze with a separate underlining of a slip .

@lquinn50 this is a full size slip when I looked at the dress. It was attached to the top of the dress, but can be detached if you want, but I adjusted it and took a picture so you can see that it will cover your back.
