Sowerby Antique Slag Glass Blue White Victorian Posey Vase, Gladstone Doctor Bag

Victorian Sowerby posy vase, mantle ornament or small wall pocket made in England. A true antique, the registration mark on the bottom dates this piece to 1877. It is in the shape of a Gladstone bag which is the old fashioned medical or doctor bag. This is one of the most desirable Sowerby posy vase shapes. The vase is a vibrant blue and white variation of Sowerby’s malachite glass, or “vitro-porcelain.” It measures approximately 3” high and a little over 3.5” wide. The Sowerby peacock head is found on the bottom above the diamond shaped registration mark. The vase is in very good antique condition. There are no cracks, chips, or repairs. The lines and darker marks seen in the glass are characteristic of the production process. Please examine all photos carefully.
