Antique Westmoreland Specialty Co. Milk Glass Schoolhouse Mustard Pot/Money Bank. No chips!
This painted milk glass mustard pot/money bank with chimney lid was manufactured by the Westmoreland Specialty Company of Grapeville, PA.
The manufacturing of this schoolhouse dates from around 1900-1924. The WSC moved from East Liverpool, Ohio to Grapeville, Pennsylvania in the late 1880’s. In the early 1900’s Westmoreland made and distributed glass containers holding condiments such as mustard, vinegar, and lemon flavoring.
First manufactured by Westmoreland in the 1920s, milk glass is considered to be the most prolific and remarkable product this company made, and WSC were one of the top makers of fine quality milk glass in the US. In 1924, the Westmoreland Specialty Company became the Westmoreland Glass Company, and in 1984 WGC closed its doors just shy of its 100 year anniversary.
This schoolhouse mustard container has the original label, and instructions on the bottom on how to convert it into a coin bank. It’s a lovely and unique display piece circa 1920-1924.
Some very small hairline cracks at edges where lid rests. There are some areas of wear to the applied paint, mostly on the lid, as would be expected due to use of the item as a condiment container. This item is in excellent antique condition. Please refer to photos for details.
Measures approximately 3 5/8" x 3 1/8" x 4".
