Original Vintage Indian Arts and Crafts Board "Smoke Signals" Magazine Spring 1965 / #44 Cherokee & Choctaw. This issue features the craftsmanship of the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina and the Choctaw of Mississippi.
My favorite article of this publication has Sculpture, Baskets, Jewelry and Rug examples of artisans from the Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual of the NC Cherokee and incredible Baskets & Dolls of the Choctaw Craft Association. It also lists Native American Art Workshops in Alaska, Texas, Washington and Oklahoma, as well as Exhibitions upcoming in Alaska, Arizona, California, Washington DC, Florida, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The quarterly SMOKE SIGNALS magazine was published by the US Department of the Interior from 1950 through 1968 "to promote programs and exhibitions and to raise awareness and appreciation of Native American arts." This 39 page publication has Government Printing Office Number: GPO 944-077.
This magazine is in good vintage condition. The inside front section has the signature Toni Schoffner at the top of the page, otherwise all the pages are clean other than typical paper aging.
This is an amazing out of print find for the avid Native American Indian memorabilia collector!
