Fernando Maurício (Nov 21,1933-Jul 15, 2003) Born in Lisbon Portugal, by 8 years old he was already singing at a local pub where Fado singers would meet after performances. At 13 years old, he was working at a shoe manufacturer & singing in local clubs. Winning 3rd place at a Fado competition, he then began his professional career when a Producer hired him to perform on weekends at his Fado houses. During the ‘50s he sang professionally at various small venues. His recordings & international performances would result in him being referred to as the King of Fado, the King of Mouraria & he received Prémio da Imprensa (1969) & Prestígio & Carreira da Casa da Imprensa (1985/1986) awards.. During his career, he appeared in 100’s of charity events throughout Portugal. Considered the greatest Fado singer of his generation, he passed away in 2003.
