VINTAGE AFRICAN 7" 17cm SQUARE BASKET LIDDED STORAGE BOX COWRIE SHELLS MAURITIUS

I purchased this basket in Mauritius in the late 1990's. I don't know its exact place of origin. Perfect for a beach or ethnically themed interior decor design. Handmade of dyed brown woven reeds, this square shaped box with a fitted lid is completely covered with geometrically placed white cowrie shells (sewn on). The lid fits snugly and keeps its shape. It has a nice weight to it. Measures 7” (17 cm) square and 4.5” (11.5 cm) tall. In great condition since it was never actually used--pristine. The shells have a bit of yellowing due to age. Shipped protected in a box.
