These are over 200 years old!
Magnificent antique collection. You can stare at these antique images over and over and still be in awe of new details. These are pages from Botanical Magazine, which is the world’s longest running, continuously published botanical periodical featuring original colour illustrations of plants.
A frame is lightly embossed into the wove paper to surround each flower. See photos 10 and 11.
The original descriptive text is included with each flower.
From Panteek.com: “William Curtis began publication of the Botanical Magazine in February 1787 in the UK. The publication continued under other editors until the introduction of color printing in 1948. The prints are copper engravings until Volume 70 and then stone or zinc lithography up until 1948. Artists hand-colored them between 1787 and 1948." After 1948, photomechanical printing was used.
