The Original Jack Henry (Clothing Store) Founded: The store was founded in 1931 by Jack Downing Henry in Kansas City, initially specializing in hats and accessories. Expansion & Acquisition: It grew into a full men's clothing store, and in 1995, it was bought by the Arvanitakis brothers (Spiro, George, and Jerry). Closure: The physical store in the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City closed permanently in September 2014, after 83 years of business, as the owners felt the traditional business attire model no longer met modern consumer needs. HISTORY: In 1931, Henry went out on his own, opening a Plaza haberdashery that specialized in just hats and accessories. By the 1980s, J H Stores were everywhere.
