lovers27 @mouxie if they are, it is slight. The Melissa styles are notorious for being on the smaller size as far as calf circumference. If you want a larger calf boot, the veronica styles are perfect. As are the engineers and Carmen's. I know this because I have a larger calf (15.5") and I'm a Frye fanatic, so I know all about the calf measurements on many of the styles.
