After 16 years of fighting ITP-idiopathic thrombocytopenia Pupura I will start four rounds of Rituxan. There is a chance this could cure me of this disease and need your prayers. They mean the world to me! The amount of medical bills my family has dealt with is overwhelming and I would love to help pay for this. savvyj@nonvaill I had chemo four years ago and have been in remission ever since. I graduated with honors from Texas A&M and now I’m in my first year of teaching. savvyj@jlt2681 Yes friend it's an autoimmune disease where my B cells eliminate my platelets. It's a roller coaster kind of disease. I deal with lots of bleeds and peteticiea(red spots) but most of all headaches and fatigue. Research has come a long way since I was first diagnosed and I know one day they will find a cure! I've been on prednisone way to much and my numbers just won't go up and stay up so I'm having Rituxan, the chemo type drug they use for transplants to kill my immune system. It's my only chance for a cure! I've put my life on hold for so long but now it's time to live!!!!

savvyj@read247 Helen! Wow It's very rare! With ITP most who have to fight this battle only have it once in their life's in fact 85% over come it completely. I was not so lucky I have chronic ITP! linsleppoAwwww. I worked hematology/oncology for 4 years. I had some ITP/TTP patients. 💕💕💕 Rituxin is ok after the 3rd bump. So they start your infusion at 50 ml/hr, then up to 100, then 150. If you don't have any allergic reaction by that bump, it's smooth sailing! 😘😘😘

linsleppoDon't be nervous! You'll do great! And a mild allergic reaction isn't a bad thing, it just means your body is reacting to the Rituxin because it doesn't recognize it. I think they bump up the speed every 15 mins. And they'll have copious amounts of Benadryl and solu medrol on hand just in case. 💕💕💕💕 But just think, a month from now we will be talking about all the things you're going to do with your chain free life. 💕💕💕

I started this morning but had a reaction to the drug so it took the complete whole day. Just got home about an hour ago. Instead of 4 hours it ended up taking 8 1/2 hours. So tired but what to thank you both! We won't know for a while if it helped but the nurses said most people who have a reaction have a better cure rate. I guess it's a sign that it's working. Thanks agin for the prayers!

I had my first infusion on Friday and it was a wild ride💉🙊First I fainted then I had a reaction to Rituxan and what was suppose to be 4 hours took 9!!!! Ugh On the bright side the nurses said it's a good sign that I had a reaction to it meaning it had an effect on my body and that's what they want to see. 1 down 3 to go!!! I've been lying low the last two days on posh and just resting. Thank again for checking on me friend! Fingers crossed on remission!!! Praying for a cure!!!

They had to stop and start it over and over because I was allergic and broke out in hives, sneezed and got congested. I'm hoping that is a good thing! I've been a little sick to my stomach today but I made it! Hopefully those are good signs! I want to be done with ITP so bad!!!! What do you think!

I have read more since we talked pre treatment and u think you are making marked improvements and although not nearly "out of the woods" you are fighting a good battle!!! Will they let you take any natural defense supplements like probiotics to help ward off infection? Seems doctors differ in that area...

linsleppoOh gosh, it sounds like it could just be allergies...hopefully! But it could turn into an infection if your WBC count is compromised. Do you know your white count by chance? Are you running fevers? Any night sweats?

Platelets were at 165, white counts were great...everything looked great! Doc said you ladies are right! It the Rituxan. I was so scared because I felt so bad😭much better today. She prescribed something for these horrific headaches so all is good! Just one more to go and I'm good!!! Thank you all for caring❤️Let's party!!! They are still normal!!!!! Yippee

taramichelle20I have ITP as well, so I feel your pain. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and have undergone extensive prednisone treatments at least twice a year. I really am opposed to surgery so let me know how the treatment works. It may be something I consider in the near future. Blessings!!

savvyj@taramichelle20 Tara!!! My ITP sister!!!! I will let you know! I have one more infusion tomorrow then back to my hematologist in November! After 3 infusions I'm at 165!!!! So excited I've never been AKA Normal without the evil prednisone!!! So so sorry you have it too! Look up indium screening at St Bart's in London. They mark platelets and can tell of it's the spleen or liver!!! I've talked to them and if Rituxan doesn't work I'm going to find out! I'm against surgery unless they know for sure! FDA hasn't approved it in the states. You may know this already! Where do you live friend? I'm in Houston and blessed with amazing doctors! Do you know how you got ITP? Sorry if I'm being to noisy!!!

thefunkyroyals@savvyj Hey girly, we've just become new posh pals when I RSVP'd for your party in Nov. I have been reading thru all the posts from you & everyone in this thread & another. I can empathize 100% with what it is like to have serious health issues as I have many. I was born w/a weird allergy, very much like an autoimmune system disorder, that almost killed me. My 1st pediatric doc kept telling my mom "oh all babies get sick, she'll be fine" & would send us on our way with some antibiotic or med that did nothing. By the age of 2 I had been hospitalized 3 times w/severe pneumonia, almost died 2 of those times & had my tonsils removed. I still kept getting sick so finally my mom thank god was smart enough to call BS on that doc & got a second opinion from another pediatric doc who was very smart & properly diagnosed me. I had to have injections 3 times a week, then 2, then 1 until I got to just 1 injection a month. By the time I hit age 12-13 I'd finally grown out of it. 2nd blow came at 18 when I was a passenger in a hit & run accident that severely injured my spine. I think the only thing that saved me from it being any worse than what it was is that I grew up from age7 as a competitive gymnast & ballet dancer so I was in amazing shape when the accident happened. Not wanting to have major surgery at 18 I went thru 3 yrs of intensive physical therapy. I went on to lead a fairly normal life, despite flair ups here & there, I did most everything everyone else does & although I was told I could no longer do gymnastics or certain other things, I still kept very busy w/all sorts of things, even kept up athletically by working out almost daily. Fast forward to the present. My life has done a 360. I have several health issues, am disabled & home bound most all the time. I feel like a shell of my former self as every day is a major struggle to do the simplest of tasks. That is why it takes me so long to upload a listing & I have 3 closets full of mostly brand new w/tags, things that are new i was planning on wearing so I cut the tags off then never ended up wearing it to things I've worn only once. I feel like I'll never get this done, I could use a team to upload all the beautiful things I have! A lot has happened in the last few years that have made things worse & brought on new health issues & more problems in other areas. My current situation is not good & I understand scared as I feel it every day for many reasons. I don't want to discuss all my miseries & problems here but I wanted you to know that you aren't alone, that I & others here empathize what it's like to struggle w/a health or disability problem & feel crummy. Your positive words & kindness to people mean a lot. Also because of my backgrounds in various areas, all of the studying I've done & still keep up on, working in or with the fields, as well as doing many of these things for myself or others I can definitely tell you the improvements these things have done for myself & others. A lot of good info that most people wouldn't know unless they were taught, worked within the fields or had someone tell them. The improvements have helped with afflictions of all kinds & are all healthy, nothing dangerous or just good knowledge about all kinds of things. Unfortunately I've been unable to continue w/much of it due to the current situation I've been put in. Anyhow, I have a lot of info you may find helpful to deal, make you feel better or enhance healing while you go thru treatment, are in between or out of treatment or even when you are feeling good to help you keep feeling good. I also wanted to ask you a couple questions if you don't mind. savvyj@brie309 Wow crazy I was just ready about your fight!!! I'm amazed😍way to fight friend! I also noticed just how beautify you are!!! Stunning friend! Plus I've just changed my major to teaching so we have a lot in common! I have battled ITP Idiopathic thrombocytopenia Pupura for 16 years. It is an autoimmune disease where my b-cells attack my platelets. It kept me home from college while all my friends left home and started their lives😢I just finished Rituxan and so far my platelets have been higher than they have ever been but I will know for sure on the 17th when I go back downtown. I found out yesterday that I've been accepted to Texas A&M university and will leave well or sick in January!! Three years late but better late than never. I could be in remission for 5, 10, 15 years, forever or it might not work. If it doesn't we will talk about removing my spleen. Praying for great health and happiness for you sweet friend! You are the first person I have told about A&M on posh! Thanks for all the shares and love❤️I will return the favor!

briewineposhOh wow.. Retuxin did nothing for me.. I hated the premeds bc it left me exhausted for days. But I've heard it is used for so many different things. I did it for transplant issues ...not Leukemia... Issues. Sounds like your disease is not common, and all the more frustrating. My 💞💞💞💞 goes out to you. I always see your about me pic and I always think how stunning you are and how naturally beautiful you are...never did I think you were enduring "this." A HUGE congrats on A&M (I'm giddy knowing I'm 1st to know on here 😃😃😃😃😃). You truly HAVE to stay optimistic and trudge forward with smiles and strength.. DO NOT waver... I actually just got told by my principal the other day what an inspiration I am to everyone. I laughed.,,I don't think I did anything, but I guess I did. I never thought about anything but defeat...it'll be 5 yrs this March 💓💓💓 Please please please message me ANYTIME about the dragging treatments (vent!!) or school stuff! I teach Language Arts (8th grade) and I'd be happy to be your mentor via Posh. What grade are you interested in? What a small world...

They were soooo leery of me returning to work bc of the germ sponges. 😆 I got a couple stomach viruses my firsts few months back...Prob should've waited, but I couldn't. I needed a normal life back. Does your illness flare up or is it constant? What are the symptoms? 16 yrs is most of your life, no? I can only imagine how much it made you grow up way quicker than your friends. Always have to look at it from a positive angle. 👍👍

All my Posh money goes to helping him with our bills. But, because I'm a 22 year cancer Survivor I donate 20% of all my sales to the American Cancer Society. anoliverI totally understand the being left behind feeling! I first "crashed" with my CFS and Fibro at 11 and it's been a struggle ever since.. Many days are just about surviving. azrnjen@savvyj Your positive attitude, helpful demeanor, and professionalism kept me from having any clue about this. I'm an ICU nurse (like many Poshers, I've learned!) and that allows me a certain level of empathy, and often a kind of a sixth sense for recognizing people whose battles aren't advertised... Maybe it's your remission, because I find myself wishing to be as vibrant as you are!!! I'll be sharing, praying, and shopping. May every little bit from every person show its results to you!

I was just thinking what a great girl you probably are in person and how driven and motivated you are, and then I came across these, and it stopped me cold. We should never ever ever take anyone for granted, whether they are our life long best friend or someone who once helps us find a dress... You are in my heart!

When I was in elementary school I would have to sit on the sidewalk and watch the other kids play because my platelets were to low😢😂😢and I think that had such a profound effect on me! I don't take no very well as an adult. I fought my way well and nothing is going to stop me friend! Thank you for your beautiful words they will stay with me❤️life is so good! Much love friend❤️
