theclosetcase The late 1930s to mid 40s were the time of the Lucite bag. Search eBay for Lucite bag and you will flip when you see the ones set with rhinestones. This is so classic, perfect with tailored clothing.

theclosetcase It's a common mistake, the translucent quality of yours makes me sure it is Lucite, Bakelite was a much denser material. Very few of these purses were constructed of bakelite and the ones that are go for unbelievable prices. Easy test for bakelite is to rub the surface until your finger gets hot and sniff, it should smell like camphor. There is also the Simichrome test, you should google it if you run across jewelry you suspect is bakelite. A lot of Bakelite jewelry gets sold as plastic and way cheaper than it's actual worth.
