03/12 my niece and nephew were diagnosed with type one diabetes. Their blood sugar levels are always off the chart. So we decided the best thing for them would be to get them a diabetic alert dog. With this dog comes a hefty price tag. My friends are helping me out by donations or giving me gently worn or new clothes and stuff to sell. Portion of the proceeds will go to them. If you want to make a donation to DiabetesAlertDogs.com and make the donation under the Foley family or call 540-543-2307

How does the diabetic dog help them? I'm a type one diabetic and I've been a diabetic for 13 years. And I think this is so cool and I've never heard of it!

@crystalrayy These dogs are very awesome. I just met my sisters dog after having him a month. They detect highs and lows. They are trained as puppies as soon as they are born. All dogs having a different way of alerting. My sisters dog is supposed to paw or bark when they are high or low. They go with you everywhere just like a seeing eye dog. They are service dogs. They even train the dogs to get food or drinks when you are low or call 911 in an emergency. Most insurance will pay a portion of the dogs as well. They are truly amazing. You can look them up Warren Retrievers. If you look up panda0406 that is my sister or Facebook us Amanda Chappelle Foley or myself Melissa Chappelle. We would be happy to answer anymore questions or talk about the dog.

@crystalrayy I'm also sorry to hear that you have it as well. Most people don't seem to understand how serious it is. I read about people dying all the time from it and seen first hand the kids drop down to the 30's and 20's and about blackout. It's awful and hope they will find a cure one day. My niece and daughter were both diagnosed the same day with illnesses and there is a chance my daughter could get it as well. My nephew was diagnosed 2 weeks to the day after my niece. Needless to say it has taken a toll on all us.

Have y'all tried contacting any organizations and see if they would help with the cost. My children are grown but two of them are type 2 diabetic my youngest has the signs but is terrified of needles so testing her is out of the question Good luck and God Bless

@missyboo59 how did you get one of these I have been looking for one for a long time but never found one I have type one also

missyboo59
@zadatweedy my sister actually got it for my niece and nephew. My daughter is starting to show the symptoms also. So I'm praying she doesn't as well. I see how life threatening it is. My daughter has IgA and IgG. Basically no immune system. My sister gets donations through making arts and crafts, people making donations and businesses. You can google warren retrievers D.A.D.D. or if you like you can look up panda0406 which is my sister and talk to her directly about her dog. He's been a real life saver. She's on FB as well. Amanda Chappelle Foley. This dog has been a life saver. I love him to death. The good thing about this company that trains them they come to you to train unlike others were you have to travel. But they aren't cheap. I'm so sorry to hear that you have it also. People don't see diabetes as life threatening or being serious.

www.sdwr.org is the new site address.
Info can also be found on YouTube and FaceBook by typing in Warren Retrievers or Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers. BTW seems that their lil sniffer also alerts to their asthma.

Hey, im wondering if you can tell me a little bit about service dogs. I need one for emotional support for depression and anxiety. Im 17. My mom doesnt want a dog but i actually really need a service dog for my emotional things. Im thinking if i can show her that i can get one. How do i go about getting one? Do i have to get evaluated by someone? Thanks :)

@lovetosell12345 I know they have services dogs for just about everything. The one my sister got for my niece and nephew is for diabetes. He detects and alerts highs and lows for blood sugar. They are trained to call for an emergency if needed. They can get drinks or snacks if needed. They think he's also alerting to asthma when the kids have problems. If you look up warren retrievers it explains everything. This particular group actually flies to you to train the dogs. Other groups you have to fly to them. You get put on a waiting list after you get approved. You can also look up my sister if you like. Either of us can help with any questions you may have. Her name is panda0406.

Thank you, ill look them up. My mom doesnt want a dog but i feell ike i really need one. I have extreme depression and anxiety and i think i have borderline and avoidant personality disorders along with some other things i dont want to say publicly. I keep trying differneet depression medicines but they just dont work completly effectivley. :( dogs are so expensive though and im sure a service dog is even more expensive, and thats a really big problem :(

@lovetosell12345 with the dogs you can do fundraisers and it's a tax right off for companies. I understand hun. If you ever need anyone to talk to I'm here. I'm a very good listener. I have problems with certain things in my life as well. So I know what it is like to get depressed. I talk to family and friends to vent. It helps.
