This genuine bronze prutah was struck under Alexander Jannaeus, King of Judaea, between 103–76 BC—over 2,000 years ago.
Known historically and biblically as the “Widow’s Mite”, this humble coin holds profound spiritual significance. The term comes from the Gospels of Mark (12:41–44) and Luke (21:1–4), where Jesus observed people giving offerings at the Temple treasury. Many wealthy donors contributed large amounts, but a poor widow came forward and gave two small copper coins—together worth only a fraction of a penny.
Jesus told His disciples: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in all she had to live on.”
These coins, called “mites” in the King James Bible, were the smallest denomination in circulation at the time, yet they became a timeless symbol of sacrificial giving, humility, and devotion.
Your coin is certified and encapsulated by NGC Ancients, preserving its authenticity and condition. It comes in a clear protective display box alongside a full-color story card depicting the biblical scene, plus a Statement of Authenticity.
