2 Sets of matching Vintage Japanese Fine Fukagawa Porcelain of Arita Japan (Purveyor to the Imperial Household) lidded tea cups . Beautiful flying black and gold leaf flying cranes (Tsuru) birds, light yellow, mauve and blue stylized clouds outlined in gold. Both marked on bottom.
In Japan, the crane, or tsuru, is a national treasure and is considered the bird of happiness. It is depicted in art, literature, and mythology as a symbol of good luck and longevity because it is said to live 1,000 years.
The Fukagawa Seiji company was founded by Fukagawa Chuji who was the second oldest son of Fukagawa Eizaemon. The company exported porcelain ware to Europe and America that was highly prized throughout the world fairs. The mark was that of the name of the company under Mt. Fuji and a Stream or only the Mt. Fuji.
