2 Posey gait belts for assistance with walking someone prone to falling. Posey Gait Belts and Transfer Belts provide caregivers with a secure hold-point to assist patients/residents during supervised walking and transfers. Gait and transfer belts are key components of safe patient handling and fall prevention programs. when not in use, the gait belt can be worn by the caregiver to ensure immediate availability when needed, or can be hung on a hook in the patient's or resident's room. The belts are different lengths. The longer one measures 2" wide & 76" in length. The shorter one measures 2" wide & 50" in length. The shorter one was used for a few days to help the patient pull their leg gently up onto the bed following hip replacement surgery.
To properly use a gait belt for walking, the belt should be positioned snugly around the individual's waist, over their clothing, with the buckle on the side. When assisting with walking, the caregiver should stand behind and to the side of the individual, holding the belt with a firm, underhanded grip. The caregiver should support the individual's weight through the belt, rather than pulling or leading them, and be prepared to guide them down safely if they lose their balance.
