Two bronzed spelter sculptures by Auguste Moreau (1834-1917), each depicting a studious child: one boy with a pen drawing a man on paper, one a girl reading an alphabet book. This is a charming exhibition of the famed sculptor's ability to capture every day life's events with utter clarity and depth. Patinaed bronze finish completes the wonderful pair. Each piece bears a plaque with “Écolière Par Moreau” (Schoolgirl by Moreau) for the girl and “Écolièr Par Moreau” (Schoolboy by Moreau). Auguste Moreau, was one of three pre-eminent sculptors of the Belle Epoque in late 19th Century France which includes Hypolite and Mathurin Moreau.
