Jeweler gave a little history lesson on this piece when I recently visited. States the shortness of length is due to its original purpose as a pocket watch chain. It’s quite old, but somewhere along the line someone added clasps and converted it into a child’s necklace. When my family got possession it held a small pendant. Item is not solid gold. Only wrapped.

jewelryjunkie81 @logannrae sort of, when I took it to the jeweler, he told me the backstory on it and he said that what they used to do when they wrap it they would have a real thin sheet of the gold and then wrap it around and somehow heat it enough to get it to adhere. Kinda cool. Have it on this and a watch.
