1999 Royal Copenhagen The Children's Christmas plate: The Snowman
Plate No: 7396 A.
Artist: Ingrid Jensen
Diameter: 17 cm
Includes mini plaquette
The idea of a “White Christmas” arose completely naturally in Scandinavia, which is normally cold and covered with snow during the month of December. “White Christmas” appeared in print for the first time several centuries ago in a Christmas story from the Nordic countries, in which a Christmas landscape is described with the green firs standing in beautiful contrast to the white snow. “White Christmas” had gradually become a fixed concept symbolizing idyllic and genuine Christmas romanticism. The tradition of Christmas and snow being irreversibly connected has gradually spread over most of the world. All the different types of snow, snowflakes, snow figures, etc. from around the world have been employed in this connection as decorative elements for Christmas.
