A wonderful geometric piece by Washington, DC area artist, Jeanne Garant (born 1939). The lithograph is vibrant and precise in its execution. It was produced in 1992 and is one of an extremely limited edition of only 10 lithographs. It measures 19.75 inches by 19.75 inches. I am also selling another lithograph by the same artist that would coordinate well with this one.
Jeanne Garant earned her undergraduate degree at George Mason and studied at the Art League School in Alexandria and the Corcoran School of Art. Her work has been exhibited widely at venues including the National Collage Society in Cleveland; the Sharon Arts Center in New Hampshire; the Printmakers Exchange Exhibit in Belfast and Dublin; the National Institutes of Health; and the Art Expo in New York City. She maintained a studio in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia for many years.
Garant's work frequently incorporates painting, collage, silkscreen, woodcut, monoprint, wax, graphite, text, mark-making, and assemblage--all in the same piece. Likewise, the composition of her work is usually an assemblage: a neutral palette always with just a bit of color; varied textures, varied papers, mixes of stripes; a value range from light to dark. She puts great effort into devising the proper shape of a work, favoring the long--vertical or horizontal.
Garant's work is found in numerous corporate and private collections and is included in the State Department's Art in Embassies program.
