This original vintage 5x7 photo captures a breathtaking moment in U.S. Naval aviation: two F-14 Tomcats refueling midair from an A-4 Skyhawk over a pale sky backdrop.
A retired public information officer from a Naval Air Station, gave me the following description:
"The lead tomkitty is a “A” model and so is the cat that is getting ready to plug into the basket.
The refueler is a A-4 but I am not sure if it’s a late model “E”. Note the avionics jump on the Skyhawk’s spine.
The receiver is from VF-111 the “Sundowners.”
I think the other kitty has a Bi-Centennial emblem on its tail which leads me to think that the picture was taken circa 1976."
This original snapshot of Cold War-era U.S. Navy fighter coordination is a rare find — not a reproduction or reprint. The planes are sharply framed, with identifiable markings for military aviation collectors, historians, and Top Gun fans alike.
📏 Size: 5" x 7"
📸 Condition: Very good overall with typical age-related light handling marks. There are a few spots of staining on the front. No creases or tears. Back is blank.
🔍 From the personal collection of a longtime aerospace and NASA historian.
Professional packaging always, since 2003.
