Presenting a unique opportunity to own a "one-of-a-kind" custom made, Copeland Spode of England set of (10) demi-tasse porcelaine china tea cup and saucer set, trimmed in 24k gold, circa 1941-1942. History and provenance below.
This beautiful (10) piece porcelain set was a wedding gift in 1942. It was custom made for my Grandmother Dorothy by the renowned Walter Copeland of Copeland Spode. Mr. Copeland was good friends with my great-grandfather who owned a printing company in New York, not far from the Copeland flagship store on 5th Avenue. Mr. Copeland designed this pattern specifically as a wedding gift for my grandmother and broke the mold after. This pattern was never produced again. Both my grandmother and great-grandfather were deeply honored.
The colors on this set are beautiful. There are (5) pink tea cup and saucers and (5) seafoam green tea cups and saucers. The seafoam green tone has a very subtle aqua undertone. This set is trimmed in genuine 24k gold. The pink set is numbered 6341 on the back and the green set is marked 6142.
The saucer measures: 5" in diameter. The tea cup measures 3.25" across and 2.35" in height.
Very good vintage condition considering the age of this antique set. Very light usage. 9 out of the 10 sets look pretty perfect. There is one scratch and a tiny chip on one pink tea cup and one scratch on the matching saucer. (Please see last 2 pictures for the wear on that one teacup and saucer.
