This is a highly collectible doll from the 1940s made by Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls. The company was started by Nancy Ann Abbott with $125 while working 18 hrs a day in her apartment making her first dolls. She took a partner, Allan Les Rowland, who handled promotion and finance matters. Nancy Ann Dressed Dolls was inc. in 1937 in California. By 1942 the company was reportedly making a million dollars a year in gross income. In 1945, the name was changed to Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls. Before her death in 1964, the company was producing the largest volume of dolls in the nation at 12000 a day and Nancy Abbott became known as the “Doll Lady.”
The Storybook Doll Line was made from 1936-48. Over 125 diff. Bisque character dolls were created, based on nursery rhymes, but reduced to 77 due to some costume materials pricing/availability. The outfits were changed from year to year, often using different materials, so variations in clothing are often found. This excellent condition doll is Little Bo Peep #153 perfect for any collection at a
great price. She has arms jointed at shoulder, 5.5 inches tall, pink dress and white pantaloons. She has painted on facial features and black slippers. Her hair is blonde, glued on mohair with a bonnet to cover it. She comes with an original white box with pink polka dots, in addition at no cost is 5 pages of background information on the dolls and the company I printed off as a little bonus.
