The Spring 2008 collection was inspired by French Art of the 1940s - the Japonisme and Primitivism movements that served the foundation for modernism. The dress has a subtle kimono influence - on the runway it was played up with accessories. The tiered shape has a V-neck with gathered shoulders, a straight fit through the body and then a narrower underlayer of ruched satin techno fabric. The techno satin has a surprisingly leather-like effect - from a distance it looks more like leather than satin. The back features a contrasting straight silhouette, done in the same techno satin as the ruching. The lining is done in the collection’s signature tribal print and peeks out, framing the skin. It is a sumptuous pure silk in a beautiful design. A timeless take on the Little Black Dress, full of whimsy and sophistication.
