Vintage 1934 Phi Delta Theta Hand-Hooked Rug Wall Hanging — Rare Fraternal Collectible
Remarkably early and handcrafted, this 1934 Phi Delta Theta hooked rug wall hanging is a scarce fraternal textile featuring the fraternity’s official coat of arms. Signed on the back “Bill Pauley X’mas 34,” this piece predates most surviving examples and showcases meticulous rug-hooking craftsmanship with strong design clarity despite age-related fading.
The front displays the classic Phi Delta Theta emblem: blue and white shield with diagonal band and gold sword, six five-pointed stars, gold helmet with wreath, and the motto scroll beneath. Colors show soft, even fading consistent with its age and it would benefit from a gentle professional cleaning. The back retains the original canvas support; areas show light wear, a few pulled stitches, separation in areas of the canvas from the rug, and minor spotting, all shown in photos.
Approx. 27.5” x 34”. Structurally sound and visually striking, this nearly century-old piece is exceptionally rare—especially with its early date and personal holiday inscription. A matching 1938 Phi Delta Theta rug is available in another listing.
