Franz Heinrich was a porcelain painter from Selb, Germany who started his own porcelain decorating company in 1896. In 1901, he began making his own fine porcelain and soon Heinrich & Co. was known worldwide for its gorgeous, gold-encrusted creations. The company continues to this day as part of the Villeroy & Boch company.
This fabulous dinner plate is from the 1930’s as evident from the particular Heinrich & Co mark on the back. It was made in Selb, then shipped to Chicago where the gold decoration was applied by Osborne Studios. The ‘Osborne’ name is etched near the Heinrich mark on the back (see photo). The plate measures 10 7/8 inches wide and is in great condition for its age. There is a dark line on the gold-encrusted rim (see photo) and some signs of light use wear here and there (no chips or cracks).
