Buenilum Hand Wrought Aluminum Bowl With Flower Design and Scalloped rim. Size is 12" X 2.5" Round. Very Nice Condition Pre Owned. From the backstamp, ''BUENILUM HAND WROUGHT'' with the combined F and B above and below, this bowl was made by Frederic Buehner and Company in New York City between the middle of 1933, when Frederic Buehner was granted the trade name Buenilum, and the end of 1941, when the US entered WWII and all aluminum in the US was reserved for the war effort. This makes this bowl between 83 and 91 years old, which is pretty old for any kind of hammered aluminum, which was first sold in 1930, 94 years ago. (The date hammered aluminum was first sold won't be 95 years ago until later in 2025.) Frederick Buehner was born in Lindach, Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1929. He began making hammered aluminum and marked it “Buenilum,” a combination of his last name and “aluminum,” in 1933. The company became Buehner & Wanner, Inc., after Franz Wanner joined the firm. The company was in New York until 1944, when it moved to Connecticut. The “castle” mark, representing a castle in Buehner’s home town of Lindach, was adopted about 1945.
