Rare 1917 Conley Model 1 Box Camera complete with a set of 8 original 4x5 glass plates (6 unexposed, 2 exposed). The Conley Model 1 was manufactured from about 1900–1910 and marketed as an affordable 4x5 plate camera, often sold through Sears catalogs.
The camera body is constructed of select wood, covered in seal-grain keratol (a textured leatherette), with oxidized black metal fittings. It features a meniscus achromatic lens with fixed focus, Conley’s “time and instantaneous” shutter, and two viewfinders for both horizontal and vertical shots.
This example includes the glass plates in original packaging, adding historic and collector value. While the camera is untested and being sold as a display/collector’s piece, it’s an important part of early American photographic history and a striking antique for display. Untested, being sold as a collectible/display. Shows expected wear for age including surface scuffs, wear around edges, and oxidation on metal parts. Please review pictures for details.
