Antique American pocket watch made by Elgin Natl. Watch Co.. Dueber case, H. H. Taylor variation, 15j, 18s, heavy gold-plated, open face pocket watch. Circa 1885 with original gold-plated Dueber case. The dial reads Elgin Natl. Watch Co. and the case is numbered 1781472. The gold case is marked "Dueber" and has an anchor hallmark. The back case is also hand engraved "1704", "S-3-3", "UCI", and "50-99" on the inner rim. This Victorian era pocket watch case has beautiful engraving detail, including a mountain range, a house, a river, flowers, a tree, a scalloped shell, and intricate filigree engraved all around the edge. It is a notably beautiful case with superb, crisp engraving detail. There is no personalized inscription on the cuvette and the cartouche is blank, allowing you to add your own inscription and initials. The movement is running and the cosmetic condition overall is excellent, with only two very small dimples. The bow is tight, the crown shows no wear, and the glass crystal is in excellent condition. Weight is approximarelly five ounces (gross weight of assembled watch), diameter of dial is approximately 1- 3/4", diameter of case frame is approximately 2-1/4", and the watchcase height, inclusive of the bow, is approximately 3-1/8".
