One pair of vintage (possibly antique) 12 karat gold filled wire rim eyeglasses. The lenses have a prescription in them and they are quite thick. They are in excellent condition for their age with no major signs of wear. The nose pads are in good condition and I do not see much wear at all on the wire.
These glasses are likely from the early 1900s to 1930s. Here’s why:
• Cable temples were popular from the late 1800s through the 1930s.
• The rimless or semi-rimless design was especially fashionable in the 1910s–1930s.
• The geometric lens shape is a less common but period-authentic style that was sometimes custom-made.
These type of glasses are nice for victorian period or art deco decor or displaying in a shadowbox.
See notes below on the marking on the bridge, which I have included a close-up of (12K gold filled is also marked on one of the arms):
12KGF” = 12 Karat Gold Filled: This indicates the frame is gold-filled, not solid gold. “Gold filled” means a thick layer of 12K gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal. It’s more durable and valuable than gold-plated items.
“10/10”: This likely refers to the thickness or proportion of the gold-filled layer, possibly meaning “10 parts of 12K gold over 10 parts base metal”—a bit unusual but not unheard of in vintage specs. It might also refer to a manufacturer’s code.
