10K Solid Gold Australian Andamooka Opal Necklace Amulet! Rare Australian Andamooka opal set in 10Kt solid yellow gold and adorned with two fiery diamond accents! Andamooka opal is described as somewhere between black opal and boulder opal and requires treatment including protective coating! Bail loop fits on up to 6mm wide necklace chain! Andamooka Opal was first discovered by Sam Brookes and Roy Sheppard. Caught in an outback thunderstorm, they sheltered under a tree when a colorful rock caught the corner of their eye between lightning strikes! Smaller deposits were exposed afterwards including Lambina during 1930 and Stuart Creek in 1947. Opal at Andamooka exists in the thin marine ‘Bulldog Shale’ which is the significant portion of the Marree Subgroup of the Early Cretaceous period. During her tour of Australia in 1954, Queen Elizabeth ll was presented with an astonishing set of opal jewels! The necklace and earrings were set with opals that had been discovered in the Andamooka opal fields; the enormous opal in the necklace weighs more than 200 carats!
