I currently have 4 more friends being screened. Theyโll proceed with testing one at a time. Such an overwhelming process!

It took me a week to post thisโฆ thereโs been a setback with my transplant status. I have an amazing friend who tested to donate a kidney to me. We are a match, but they are very thourough and through testing found a reason that we canโt move forward. So, weโre back to trying to find a match that will be compatible & safe for both of us.

I just came across your closet from the handcrafted group. Try to stay positive! My mother was on dialysis and the transplant list for 4 years and received a kidney 3 1/2 years ago from a deceased donor. She has PKD and it was and still is a long road. All you can do is take it one day at time. โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Thank you friends. The setback had made this more stressful for sure.
They found another potential problem with my veins, which led me to a 2nd opinion at a different hospital.I had a procedure on Thursday that seemed to go well. Iโll know soon if we can proceed with the transplant.
Nothing with me is ever easy when it comes to my health.

Iโve experienced some setbacks with my transplant statusโฆ first, I had a donor. Although she was healthy , they found a reason that she can be at risk if she donatesโฆ luckily, I had several other potential donorsโฆ..

They performed an MRI on me just to get images for the surgery & found what appeared to be a problem with my veins. The hospital decided it was too risky and they released me from their transplant program. I was devastated. I went for a second opinion at another hospital in Boston. Last week, I had a procedure on my veins, and we found out that my veins are fine and we are able to move forward with the transplant! โฆ

Unfortunately, my numbers are steadily getting worse (creatinine 7.94 gfr 7 for those who are familiar with lab counts) after discussing this with my nephrologist it looks like Iโll need to start dialysis soon and continue it till we find a match. Iโm disappointed, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. โค๏ธ

Thank you all so much for all your comments and your support. Today I had my second round of dialysis. Itโs very tiring. They said it could take up to a month to start feeling the benefits. The nurses are so accommodating & friendly. My potential donors have started filling out the questionnaires & have begun the initial reviews. Theyโll start the testing soon. We are moving in the right direction. ๐

Great news! One of my lifelong friends has been approved as a match! Iโm getting a new kidney end Sept/beginning Oct!
Unfortunately, I need another surgery this Thursday to have my parathyroid removed. Iโll be hospitalized for about 5 days so they can monitor me. So, Iโll be closing my closet Tuesday.. if I feel ok, Iโll open for a couple weeks after that before the transplant! Iโm over the moon happy & so grateful to my friend and the amazing doctors!

Hi everyone! The transplant was a success! My friend, Pete (my donor) and I are doing great! See pic of us above from yesterday. ๐ I already feel healthier! My numbers are improving and my kidney function is already within normal range! Itโs incredible how quickly we are seeing such amazing results! Thank God for Pete & my outstanding team doctors and nurses! Iโm beyond grateful! โค๏ธ thank you all for your love & support!

Thank you all! Iโm doing great! I did end up back in the hospital with a setback (infection) but my kidney wasnโt affected. My kidney function is great! Htheinfection is cleared up. ๐

@lenoregarnhum yes, she has been. She had no symptoms then her Dr had her checked for some reason and she was already in advanced stages, they don't know why. She took and takes a lot of meds but for years she's been healthy. I've known her since the late 80s. She can't drive herself to treatment because she needs a wheelchair after. she lives alone so it's not safe. congratulations!! I was probably reading years old posts Gayle

@lenoregarnhum I know. They can get her a part time nurse but only someone she knows because the pay/hours isn't enough for a stranger to commit to. It's really hard. Having a live in nurse, even part time is scary if you don't know them. I read your dyalisis nurses are nice, hers are mostly mean, they don't pay attention to the machine. @tanner2308 hi Debbie! Iโve been doing great.. my latest labs (Monday) were somewhat concerning. My creatanine went up, but my tacrolimus level was higher than my normal range. That think thatโs why. ๐คthey lowered my dose & Iโll repeat labs on Thursday.
Iโm glad youโre doing great! Sorry youโre having stomach issues though.

Another who was given a second chance to live after a double lung transplant. It is very close to my heart. I'm so glad you've remained close to your donor. Continued blessings and health!

I admire your courage and itโs awesome that youโve such great support to uplift you. ๐๐๐ผ Sadly, Iโve lost some of my good friends to ovarian and breast cancer.๐ช And parents are old and frail. So I mostly rely on my faith in God first, then my fiancรฉ Mike. I donโt know what Iโd do without him.

Iโll be on a โknee scooterโ and Iโm told itโll be a long road recovery as Iโll be having bone lengthening surgery on my foot among other things followed by abt 6 mos of PT.๐ตโ๐ซ Thank you for sharing your story.
