I’ve been looking for Mountain Dell handbags because my parents started The Terry Company and named it after me (my nickname is Terry) with the idea that I would eventually take it over. That was not to be, but I worked there for years after school and on weekends. The original handbag was a drawstring that my mother designed. I still remember when she showed it to my father one night at the dinner table. He said “ make me four more. I’m taking them to New York on Monday. He did and came back with an order from JC Penny that was for more than we thought we could fill. One of the key features was that they were 100% nylon and could be thrown in the washing machine and would come out looking new. Eventually they became the hottest selling handbag in the country. They were carried by Sears, Montgomery Ward and virtually every major department store throughout the country. They sold wholesale back then for $21.35 per dozen and retailed for $2.98.
