The 52nd Infantry Regiment was first activated on June 16, 1917, at Chickamauga, Georgia. The regiment saw its first combat service in World War I in the Gerardmer Sector in Alsace, France. During World War II, the regiment was re-designated as the 52nd Armored Infantry Regiment and later as the 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion.
