I'm generally a size 14-- would L or XL work better?

Hello, I would say go XL. Just because it is always more easier to take it in were you need it, vs if you don't have enough fabric to let it out. Like I have a larger bust, but a smaller waist, so I would just have it tacked in, but the bust fits flawless and it's not like I have smashed boobs! LOL
