Synthetic fibers such as Polyester, Nylon, Polypropelene and Polynosic are made made fibers that begin as fossil fuels. Thru modern chemistry we have been able to produce high performing inexpensive materials that sometimes beat natures originals! These fibers can be infinitely recycled, from clothing back into yarn. The apparel industry has been building the garment recycling infrastructure for years. We are almost at commercialization scale! Did you know there is enough synthetic material made since the 1970’s that can be infinitely recycled and we could use this to continue to make clothing without making another yard of virgin material!? Bronze Star: Skip the Virgin! Do good and buy only recycled polyester or recycled nylon synthetic fibers. Silver Star: Know what you are getting! seek out materials and products with GRS or RCS certification logo. These ensure the final product is in fact recycled content. Look for recycled content made from post consumer waste! Gold Star: Be the change! Participate in a brands take back program once your synthetic garment is beyond repair, send your garment back to be recycled!
