The sign is perfect for any collector of advertising memorabilia!
This piece is not framed. I can only estimate the date of this sign. This company was started in Dayton, Ohio by two brothers, Roscoe and Sean Iddings, in 1912. Along with NCR (National Cash Register Company) helped the citizens of Dayton through the tragic flood of 1913, monetarily, providing shelter, and helping to procure clean drinking water, when the water system was polluted and the drinking water toxic. During World War I and World War II, the brothers Iddings became the United States government’s contractor for fire extinguishers. It was during their tenure that they provided the fire extinguishers for neighboring State Indiana’s Indianapolis 500. I cannot find a specific date for when that partnership began, but I do know it ended in 1945, when the brothers sold the company, and production was moved to Newark, New Jersey. The reason for my belief that it was 1940ish is that I bought an extensive lot of ephemera that dated from the late 1930s to the late-1940s, several pieces from NCR were included, a commemorative pamphlet from 1948 marking the 35th Anniversary of the tragic flood. It makes sense to me that this was from that time. I cannot find another sign like it for comparison.
It is made of cardboard, and it is an 11” x 9”. It is in fantastic condition for its age, but most of the things in that lot, just like this advertisement, were bagged and boarded to preserve the life of them.
