Stetson China was only in business from 1946 until 1965, but in less than 20 years, Stetson manufactured a number of classic Midcentury patterns. Stetson was founded in 1946 in Lincoln, Illinois by Polish immigrant Louis Stetson (no relation to John Stetson, of Stetson Hat fame). By 1962, according to Lost Illinois Manufacturing, "Stetson China was the largest manufacturer of hand decorated dinnerware under one roof in the world and Lincoln's biggest industry in payroll and personnel, employing 792 people with an annual local payroll of more than $4 million".
Unfortunately, by 1965, Stetson felt the burn of cheaper, offshore manufacturing, and closed their doors permanently. No idea the offshore migration started that early!
This pie plate, though extremely rare, is only in fair condition. No chips or cracks, but there is some discoloration under the glaze. Please examine the photos carefully.
"Northern Lights" (Pattern Code: STTNOL) features gold sunbursts with dots on a smooth, creamy white background. No Trim.
1950s/1960s
Ovenproof hand painted underglaze
Measures 10 inches in diameter and approximately one and a half inches high.
