the clasps or pins lead me to believe they are brooches. they could have started out as earrings and were changed to brooches. there is a pat. no. 151918 (if ive seen it correctly). Any chance you might know something about a piece like this? I doubt it is set in a precious metal or that the stones are real. but you never know with something this old
