Vintage Sterling Silver, Onyx, Marcasite, & Ruby Crested Long Tail Bird

Since ancient times Onyx is believed to absorb negative energy. It was said Cleopatra wore Black Onyx for it's protective features. Birds were a popular symbol and seen as messengers between humanity and the gods. While this is a circa mid-century brooch its is none-the-less a beautiful piece that you will want to wear time and time again. :) The Sterling Silver is set with Marcasite on the head and down the wings into the tail. The breast is a large Black Onyx stone, & finally the eye is set with a deep red garnet. The entire brooch measures 4 1/2" long x 1 1/2" wide at the widest point It is marked 924 There are no maker's marks It was made circa mid to late 1900's This can be worn by men or women.
