Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi “Kantsubaki | Camellia Girl” by Takamizawa, Kazuo (1927-)

This lovely doll is the largest in this series and celebrates the Winter Camellia while retaining the wonderful character of the Enju wood. The hair decoration, topped with a bold ‘Mage’, complements the long, incised Bangs, (‘Bob’) treatment. The face has simple eye details with a small red nose. The figure is carved and burned, with the Camellias delicately highlighted in black pigment. The doll has artist seal stamped on the base, with original seal on the bottom. It stands 6 3/4", 3.5" wide, weight 15oz. The doll is in good, original condition, consistent with age and standards of collectable Folk Art, with all details perfect and as crafted.
