Vintage Skelton Cactus Cross

This is a vintage rustic handcrafted cross made from cholla rib (also called cholla skeleton). The cholla cactus is a popular cactus found in the southwest desert. When the cactus has died, the rib or skeleton is the woody fiber left behind after the fleshy cactus pulp and skin has broken down or been eaten by desert animals. The cactus ribs were cleaned, cut and tied with twine to create this lightweight cross. Includes a loop on top to hang on a wall or attach some wire and make it a unique and eye catching large Christmas tree ornament. Has the words“INRI” and “ZACATECAS” These words seem to be on a hard leather, but could be a thin wood really looks like it has got a lot of history on it.
