Decided to give to my sister. - NOT FOR SALE I sought information from someone more educated on the topic than myself after a friendly Posher pointed me in the right direction. I learned that this is in fact a Vintage Silver butterfly brooch with filigree and enamel work from the 1950's or 1960's. The expert that I spoke with relayed that it looked great in it's current state and should not be cleaned any further.

It’s usually the artist mark and then the percentage of silver. In this case 800 is your silver content (typical of some jewelry made in Mexico). Not real certain in the first set of numbers. Hope that helps some 😊

@cameo_br Yes thank you. If it is silver why am I not able to clean it? So possibly made in Mexico?

@bargainsercher I have some pieces that are very hard to clean that are silver, not sure why. I’m going to try using my ultrasonic cleanser to see if that helps. I think it could be Mexican silver but I’m hardly an expert. Definitely worth taking to a professional jeweler near you or an antique professional that knows their jewelry

@bargainsercher just used google lens on the picture and e bay has 2 similar to yours. One is $22. The other is $150. It is vintage silver and that may play a role in why its hard to clean.

I paid to have an appraiser online look at the item and am very pleased with the information I was able to learn. Thank you so much for your guidance, it is very much appreciated. I love to learn about things and not just see them as something pretty.
