Vintage Signed Yves Saint Laurent Coral Enamel Pink Rhinestones Clip Earrings

1980s goldtone coral enamel and unfoiled openbacked pink marquise rhinestones clip back earrings. Marked "YSL." Measure: 1 1/4 inches long by 1 1/16 inches wide. Condition: Very good; minor wear. Yves Saint Laurent is a French luxury fashion house. It was founded in 1962 and originally only made haute couture, before extending itself into more affordable readymade wear in 1966. Prior to starting his own line, Yves started designing clothes for Dior at the age of 17. After Dior died in 1957 Yves took over as the creative designer for the company. In 1966, Yves was drafted for military duty. Upon his return from war he had a mental breakdown, leading him to separate from Dior and start his own line of clothing. Yves Laurent is famous for crossing gender barriers, being one of the first fashion houses to adopt pants and blazers for women. Although today women wearing pants and blazers are ubiquitous, they were anything but when they were introduced.
