Vintage Signed "Nelson" Hopi Patung Squash Kachina Katsina Doll Holding Feathers

For your consideration is this vintage Hopi Kachina Doll made by the artist named "Nelson". This is a Patung or Squash Kachina doll. According to The Complete Guide to Collecting Kachina Dolls by Barton Wright, "The squash Kachina is a Chief Kachina or wuyz for the Pumpkin Clan. There are relatively few members of this clan left and consequently their stores are not very well known, particulalry concerning their more important personages. Although the Squash Kachina's functions as a wuya are unknown he does appear as a runner on First Mesa according to Colton (1959, p. 69). His effigy is a great favorite for collectors, and almost all carvers produced some version of this doll." The Kachina is holding 3 Maribou type feathers and is adorned with real rabbit fur and leather. He is painted to resemble a squash. The bottom is signed "Nelson" and "Squash".
